Heading Home

"Fort Benning"
(Undated but possibly where Barger was stationed immediately after the war.)

The death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the late stages of the war was a blow to civilian and military alike.  The President died of a cerebral hemorrhage on April 12, 1945, while at this home in Warm Springs, Georgia.  Warm Springs is only 40 miles from Fort Benning and the home became a tourist attraction for many.  Apparently Barger was one of them as he wrote on this photo "President Roosevelt's Ga. home where he died."

A Nation's Grief
is clearly evident in this photo of an accordion player from the Army Band and others who weep at the President's funeral in Warm Springs
