1ST BATTALION, COMPANY A - 1983

The Invasion of Grenada, a Caribbean island nation with a population of about 100,000 people, was codenamed Operation Urgent Fury. Grenada's Prime Minister had been executed during a military coup and the island was thrown into chaos and hundreds of American citizens were stranded.
On 25 October 1983, U.S. Army Rangers jumped into Grenada to restore civil order and rescue American medical students at
St. George's University. The Red Devils arrived two days later
It was only a matter of days before the Peoples' Republican Army had surrendered and Cuban
soldiers building an airstrip on the island were expelled.
The 1/508 remained as a peacekeeping force and returned on 11 November 1983 to Ft. Bragg, NC.  Most of these photos were taken the day before departure.
