EXECUTIVE CHAMBERS
DENVEREXECUTIVE ORDER
PROCLAMATION
508 PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT
REUNION WEEK
August 28 - September 3, 1978 |
WHEREAS, |
the 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment,
82nd Airborne Division,
was activated in 1942, at Camp Blanding, Florida; and, |
WHEREAS, |
this Regiment parachuted into Normandy on "D-Day", June 6,
1944,
and fought for 33 days without relief; and, |
WHEREAS, |
the "Red Devils" subsequently saw action in Nijmegen, Holland
and the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and in Germany; and |
WHEREAS, |
with the war's end in Europe, the Regiment was designated
"America's Guard of Honor" by General Dwight D. Eisenhower and; |
WHEREAS, |
the 4th reunion of the 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment, which
is being held in Denver, Colorado, provides an opportunity to
renew old ties of friendship among the unit veterans; |
NOW THEREFORE, I, Richard D. Lamm, Governor
of the State of Colorado,
do hereby proclaim the week of August 28 - September 3, 1978, as
508 PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT
REUNION WEEK
in the State of Colorado, to honor these
veterans of World War II,
and I do extend GREETINGS to the 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment
Association. |
