PROCLAMATION
"508TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT DAYS"
July 4-6, 1980 |
WHEREAS:
|
The 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, a part of the 82nd Airborne
Division, fought in the famous Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944, the
Battle of Nijmegen, Holland on September 17, 1944 and the Battle of
Ardennes, Belgium on
December 17, 1944; and |
WHEREAS:
|
For its courageous efforts and meritorious service in combat during
World War II, that military unit earned a Presidential Unit Citation as
well as many other significant commendations; and
|
WHEREAS:
|
The "Red Devils" have carried their patriotic and courageous spirit into
civilian life and are still experiencing the camaraderie that bonded
them during World War II; and |
WHEREAS:
|
On this day, the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment has gathered in
Indianapolis to hold its Sixth Annual Convention: |
NOW, THEREFORE, |
I, William H. Hudnut, III, Mayor of the City of Indianapolis, do hereby
proclaim July 4-6, 1980, as "508TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT DAYS"
in Indianapolis, and call upon all citizens to recognize this
organization as one that has served its country with honor and
distinction.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of
the City of Indianapolis to be affixed this 26th day of June, 1980.
