1-508TH MONUMENT PROJECT

Our Mission
The Association strives to honor, preserve and communicate the history of all generations of 508th Paratroopers.  From the hedgerows of Normandy; to the farm fields and forests of Eastern Holland; to the treacherous snows of the Ardennes; to the Texas prairies of Operation Longhorn Korea Era training; to the streets of Santo Domingo; to the jungles of Vietnam; to the beach sands of Grenada; to the burning neighborhoods of Panama City; to European NATO shows of force; to the deserts of Iraq; and to the mountains of Afghanistan—the 508th has been front and center in safeguarding freedom.  Our Nation and the World salute the extraordinary legacy of 508th Paratroopers.

The 1-508 Monument Project

1st Battalion 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), first as part of the 173d Airborne Brigade based in Vicenza, Italy, and then as part of the 4BCT (Brigade Combat Team) and later the 3BCT of the 82nd Airborne Division, has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan an extraordinary six times during the Global War on Terrorism. Like so many units, many 1-508 Paratroopers have suffered life-altering injuries and many others have made the ultimate sacrifice. The 1-508 Monument Project completes the existing array of engraved granite memorial ledgers with new monuments dedicated to soldiers who perished in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan during the Battalion’s 2005, 2009-2010, 2012 and 2014 tours—saluting 31 additional fallen Paratroopers. The project also funds the cleaning and letter restoration of the original memorials for 13 courageous Paratroopers lost in Iraq in 2005 and Afghanistan in 2003 and 2007-2008.
