Cpl Robert T. Glunt, son of Mrs. Ada Glunt
of near Duncansville [PA], who has been serving with the
airborne forces of the United States Army in the European area,
has been awarded the Bronze Star for heroic conduct, according
word from him received by his mother.
According to the citation, a copy of which was enclosed in a letter
arriving this week, the heroic conduct of Cpl Glunt, serving in
the 508th parachute infantry, occurred on December 27, last
year, in Belgium. A machinegunner, he was part of an LMG
section which repulse the attack of an estimated battalion of
German troops.
The enemy attacked with great ferocity and overran several
positions. When Cpl Glunt prepared to open fire the gun
failed to function and he at once ran back through a hail of
machine gun and small arms, over 100 yards of brilliantly
moonlit ground and secured another gun. He carried this
gun back to his position, set it up, opened fire and routed the
enemy from in front of his position, killing many of them.
