BRONZE STAR MEDAL

GO 19. SECTION III, AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL

ROBERT H. MORRIS, 39261269, Staff Sergeant, 508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct in action on 1-2 October 1944 near ***, HOLLAND. Staff Sergeant MORRIS was a platoon sergeant, LMG Platoon, Headquarters Company, Second Battalion. When a strong enemy attack penetrated the forward position of the Second Battalion in that sector of the regimental MLR, and enemy assault groups infiltrating through one company position had encircled the command post, Staff Sergeant MORRIS directed the fire of one section of LMG's in support of this company position. He directed his section guns to fire into the enemy and he moved to a position from which he could observe this fire. He was able to neutralize this threat from the flank and prevent further infiltration to the rear and flank of the command post. Entered military service from MISSOURI.
