MILLARD
NEWMAN, 36505165, Private, 508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct
in action on June 8-9, 1944 near *** FRANCE. Private NEWMAN, Medical
Aid Man, Medical Detachment, 508th Parachute Infantry, while on Hill
***, near ***, FRANCE, with a group of paratroopers surrounded by the
enemy for three days, repeatedly gave medical aid and carried wounded
to safety while under direct enemy fire and with disregard for his own
safety. Such actions on his part were entirely voluntary. The prompt
care and evacuation of the wounded, no matter where they fell, was a
large factor in maintaining the morale of the remainder of the troops
on Hill **. The life of at least one man was saved as a direct result
of Private NEWMAN's bringing him in; unassisted to the battalion aid
station further attention. Entered military service from FLINT, MICHIGAN.
