GO 19. SECTION III, AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL

ARTHUR W. PUFFER, 1822493, Corporal, 508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct in action on 24-25 September 1944 near ***, HOLLAND. Corporal PUFFER, Assistant Squad Leader, Company “H”, displayed exceptional courage and assisted the orderly movement of his platoon while an enemy counter attack was in progress. When his company had reached its objective, the enemy launched a counterattack supported by artillery fire. Company “H” displaced to new positions and prepared for a second attack. During the displacement Corporal PUFFER remained in position from which he covered his platoon until he was seriously wounded by artillery. His brave action contributed to the orderly movement and subsequent prompt reorganization of his platoon and company for a second attack. Entered military service from GALLEY, NEW MEXICO.
