THE MILITARY MEDAL
When a strong
German attack penetrated his battalion's position near Errie, Belgium,
on 26 December, 1944, Sergeant GUZZY, a machine gun squad leader,
heroically manned a gun of a fatally wounded comrade and killed ten Germans,
thus blocking the penetration at this point. Moving along his
entire company front under intense enemy small arms fire, he poured a
hail of lead upon every enemy automatic weapon in view. His
daring initiative was an inspiration to his men and a key factor in the
repulse of the enemy assault.
