“The
I Company's roadblock at Beek had been forced back on the 18th and
reestablished on the 19fth of September [1944]
When all of the officers, and most non-coms present became casualties, Corporal Robert Chisolm took
command of the road block - a total of 83 men. For the exemplary
leadership Chisolm showed in this and the ensuing action he later
received the Legion of Merit.
