Each company periodically included a
casualty list in its morning reports. Those lists serve to
document men who were wounded and who would probably later appear on
general orders awarding them the Purple Heart.
In some cases the general orders were
cut by the field hospital and not within the 508th, especially if the
wound was severe enough that he man was not returned to duty. As a
consequence, these lists may be the only official notice that we will
acquire.
Unfortunately, these lists typically
do not indicate the date of the wound but do sometimes show which field
hospital the man was evacuated to.
But, while these lists are a good resource,
they can only be used as an indicator of probable deservedness and not
as an actual award. |
