Alton enlisted in the Army on 14 October 1942 at Ft Oglethorpe, GA.  He volunteered for parachutist duty and was assigned to the Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 508th.

Pfc Agee made the D-Day jump on 6 June 1944 into Normandy, France and was seriously wounded that same day.  He was unable to return to the regiment until 11 September 1944.  His physical condition was still insufficient to join in on the jump intro Holland a week later.  On 14 December 1944 he was transferred to the Parachute Replacement Regiment, Ft Benning, GA.

His military awards include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in Normandy assault and the Purple Heart.
