Jess enlisted in the Army
on 4 February 1942 and later volunteered for parachutist duty. On 15
March 1943 he was transferred to Co H, 508th PIR.
Pvt Alley was appointed to the grade of Pfc two months later and then
by September was listed as a Sergeant. Sgt Alley was listed as MIA as
of 6 June 1944 but was able to return to the company on 11 June.
He was subsequently wounded in action on 4 July 1944. Following the
jump into Holland Sgt Alley was listed as seriously wounded in action on
12 October 1944 and evacuated. He returned to duty on 24
December and was temporarily transferred to Service Company.
He apparently joined the unit in Belgium however and is shown as a
Battle Casualty, injured in action on 4 January 1945 and was again
evacuated. .On 3 May 195 Sgt Alley was transferred from the 508th PIR
to the detachment of patients at an unnamed hospital. He was
discharged on 19 September 1945. . |
