WILLIAM F. ARNDT

Grave marker for William F. Arndt in Plot N9, Saint Peter's Union Church Cemetery, Lynnville (Lehigh county, Pennsylvania.

William was registered with the local draft board (record at left) and voluntarily enlisted in the Army at Erie, PA on 15 October 1942.

 On 21 October 1942, Pvt Arndt was transferred from the Reception Center, Fort George G. Meade, MD to Company C, 508th PIR.

Following the Normandy Campaign, he was appointed to the grade of Pfc on 20 July 1944.

Pvt Arndt was wounded in action in Germany on 10 February 1945.  Still hospitalized on 30 May 1945, he was transferred to the Detachment of Patients.  He was discharged from the Army on 190 January 1946.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in the Normandy assault.

 

William filed this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans bonus on 18 January 1950.  He was credited with 21 months of domestic duty and 18 months of foreign service which gave him a $480 award.
