JAMES ARVA

ARVA, James Age 85 of Tujunga, CA and formally of Dayton, OH passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2005.

He served his country with the 82nd airborne as a paratrooper and worked for GM as a mock-up designer.

Jim is survived by Margaret, his wife of 50 years and cousin Jerry Malone of Huber Heights, OH.

Funeral services will be held at Dayton National Cemetery with Chaplain B. Wilson officiating on Monday, February 28, 2005 at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are with The Neptune Society with local services in care of The Westbrock Funeral Home, Bigger Road.

Grave marker for James Arva in Section 19-A Site 785, Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton (Montgomery county), Ohio.

Pvt Arva was a member of the cadre team transferred from the 508th PIR to the 508th on 16 October 1942.  He was assigned to Service Company as a rigger and quickly gained the rank of T/5..

In March 1944, James was part of the advance party sent from the Portstewart to Nottingham to set up the encampment which would house the regiment there.

T/5 Arva was next sent on detached duty  with the Provisional Rigger Co (Pool) 82nd AB Division to Cottesmore, England.  He returned to duty on 28 October 1944 after seeing combat in Holland.  His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.

James re-enlisted in the Army on 20 August 1945.
