PAUL B. ATWOOD

Grave marker for Paul B. Atwood in Section 3, Site 408-I of the Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield (Sangamon county), Illinois.

Paul enlisted in the Army at Peoria, IL on 5 October 1942 and was assigned to company B, 508th PIR.

Pvt Atwood was appointed to the rank of Pfc on 5 January 1943 and then to Corporal on 24 April 1943.  He was promoted to sergeant on 31 Aug 1944 and then to SSgt on 24 October 1944.

SSgt Atwood was slightly injured in Belgium on 26 December 1944 but rejoined his company 2 weeks later.  On 30 January 1945 he was wounded and evacuated.  On 31 May 1945 he was subsequently transferred to another hospital and did not return to the regiment.

His military decorations included the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart with OLC.
