Grave marker for Joe E. Austin and spouse in the Resthaven Gardens Cemetery, Oklahoma City (Cleveland county), Oklahoma.

Joe enlisted in the Army at Oklahoma City, OK on  13 August 1943.

Pvt Austin would have completed jump school before leaving for the ETO and may have been assigned to a regiment after graduating or after arriving in England.  His service history is largely unknown beyond what appeared in his obituary, at left.

However, in July 1945 he was in Company A, 508th PIR when he was awarded a Good Conduct medal.  He arrival/departure from the regiment appears to have never been documented.
