EDDIE L. BAKER

Death Certificate and Application for a Grave marker for Eddie L. Baker.  Burial was in the  Woodlawn Garden of Memories, Houston (Harris), TX.

Eddie enlisted in the Army at Tulsa, OK on 31 October 1942 and following basic training was assigned to the 71st Infantry Division.

Pvt Baker subsequently volunteered for parachutist duty.  On 23 July 1944 Pvt Baker was transferred from Hq 82d Airborne Division, Leicester, England to Company D, 508th PIR as the regiment was rebuilding its strength in Nottingham, England following the Normandy campaign.

Baker participated in the jump into Holland on 17 September 1944.  On 8 November he was sent to a field hospital as a non-battle casualty.  He retuned to the company on 28 November.

Pvt Baker was promoted to the grade of Corporal on 21 February 1945.

On 9 February 1945 he was again sent to a field hospital as a "non-battle casualty, Germany" and was able to rejoin the company at Camp Sissonne, France on 11 March 1945.

He was discharged on 24 September 1945.  His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for Holland campaign and Airborne operations/

Unfortunately Eddie died on 18 May 1950 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
