SEBASTIAN J. BARBER

Sebastian J. “Bib” Barber, 94 of Streetsboro and formerly of Ravenna, passed away Thursday September 6, 2018 at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. He was born June 22, 1924 in Ravenna , Ohio to the late Frank and Bessie (Tilenni) Barber. Bib lived in Ravenna most of his life, graduated from Ravenna High School 1942. Survivors include his wife Mary I. (Petrella) Barber whom he married July 31, 1948, his children Steve (Mimi) Barber of Cleveland Hts., Daniel (Cindy) Barber of Salado, TX, Bill (Mary Beth) Barber of Ravenna, Lori Barbuto of Howard, Ohio, Maryann Barber of Streetsboro, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, and siblings Grace (Gembar), Augie, Mary (Sapp) and Anne (Panucci) he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Damara Diaz and her daughter Juliana.

During WWII he was a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division (Eisenhower Honor Guard). Bib retired from both the US Postal service as a mail carrier and then from the City of Ravenna. As a postal employee Bib was known to many retail and downtown businesses for his announcement of “Parcel Post” as he made his deliveries. Later he delivered mail on rural routes throughout the area. His time with the City was spent at the Water Plant. Bib was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Knight of Columbus, Italian American Society, the VFW Post 1055 and the Ravenna American Legion. Bib was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards anytime family and friends got together. Each of his grandchildren will have special memories of him. Some will remember him as the greatest euchre and pinochle teacher and partner, maker of the world’s greatest meatballs and hamburgers, lover of root beer floats – especially on his front porch during a storm. Some remember cooking out and picking vegetables with him in the garden. They will think of him every time they open a new deck of cards, turn on an Ohio State or Notre Dame football game, watch an old Western, or sit down together to share a meal. All will miss his sense of humor.

Calling hours will be Monday September 10, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday September 11, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church Ravenna, Ohio.
