SS
Conte Bianamero Manifest
shows that the ship sailed from Genoa, Italy on October 16, 1928
and arrived in New York City ten days later on October 26th.
Line 12 shows Felice (nee
Testaguezza) Bau, age 29
who claimed citizenship "by Marriage" and a destination address of
256 Church Street, Nanticoke, PA.
With Mars. Bau are her two sons, Guerrino (6) and Louis (4).
Citizenship for both youngsters was documented through their birth
certificates. |
SS
Rex Manifest
carried Guerrino Bau traveling unaccompanied on a voyage from Genoa,
Italy to New York City.
Then 16, his date of birth is properly listed as April 21, 1922
along with his birthplace of Wanamie, PA His destination was
the family homestead at 256 Church Street, Nanticoke, PA
Guerrino may have left Italy as the storms of war were brewing and
his age of 16 perhaps made him eligible for conscription into the
Italian army. |
Guerrino Bau enlisted in the Army on October 28,1942 in
Wilkes Barre, PA. Since he volunteered for parachutist duty
and the 508th PIR had just been activated, he probably was
immediately transferred to the regiment at Camp Blanding, FL,
Although he was still with the regiment during the
1944-1945 period, it is unclear whether he saw combat as no related
military awards have yet been seen for him.
Guerrino died on January 26, 2006 in his hometown
of Nanticoke (Luzerne), PA. Of interest is the fact that his
wife Helen preceded him in death just a week earlier on January
19th. Helen had been in an elder care center and died at the
age of 83. It is possible that Guerrino so mourned her death
that he succumbed as well. Jennifer Bau
wrote a
biography on her grandfather as a college project. It
was shared with Irv Shanley who was compiling history for Hq 2nd
men. |
