ROY BRITT

Grave marker for Roy Britt in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Loyd Star (Lincoln county), Mississippi.

 

Roy registered for the draft in Brookhaven, MS.  Note that this is a post-war record, as he enlisted on 13 December 1949, prior to draft enactment in 1940.

SSgt Britt was transferred from Hq 11th Replacement Depot to Service Company, 508th PIR on 9 August 1944.

He returned to the U.S. on 2 November 1945.

Sixteen state men are scheduled to arrive on the Sea Pike, docked in New York yesterday. The names of these men are: John Dowdle of Columbus; Cpl. Joseph A. Foster of Artesia; T-5 Leo E. Southern of Arkville; Capt. Scott Cooper of Water Valley; Pfc, John Cargile, Taylorsville; Capt. Ralph O. Levy of Clarksdale; M-Sgt. Thomas S, Jones of Corinth; T-Sgt. William M. Swindle of Richton; SSgt Roy Britt, Brookhaven; Sgt. Alex Anding of McNair; Sgt. Orvell Simpson of Ashland; T-4 Jack Owens of Woodville; Cpl. James T. Bridges of Moorehead; Pfc. Eugene Coleman of Columbus.

Not listed since he was not from Mississippi, Pfc Royal Buss of Donnelly, MN was also on the Sea Pike when it arrived that day..
