ERWIN F. BULTEMEIER, 83, of Decatur,
died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born
Jan. 7, 1922, in Adams County, he was the son of Charles C. Bultemeier
and Clara (Buuck).
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran
Church, Preble; American Legion Post Past Commander, Legions 40-8 Club;
and former member of American Legion Color Guard. He worked for Doc
Dancer Heating & Air, and Diamond Die Maker.
He served in the United States Army
during World War II and he served in the European Theatre and was a
member of the 82nd Airborne division. During the war he received a
Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars.
Surviving are son, Michael G.
Bultemeier of Fort Wayne; two stepsons, David C. Magley of Ossian and
Timothy A. Magley of Decatur; three brothers, Arnold Bultemeier of Fort
Wayne, Norbert Bultemeier and Waldo Bultemeier, both of Decatur; one
sister, Ludella Bultemeier of New Haven; two grandchildren; seven
step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven
step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife,
Jacquelyn Hamm, in 1967; his second wife, Alice Goldine Magley, in 2002;
and one son, Thomas L. Bultemeier, in 1969.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at
St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor
Daniel Brege officiating. Visitation also from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at
Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial in St. Paul Lutheran
Church Cemetery, with Military graveside rites by American Legion Post

Grave marker for Erwin F. Bultemeier in the Saint Paul
Lutheran Cemetery, Preble (Adams county), Indiana.
Erwin enlisted in the Army at Toledo, OH on 5 October
1942.
Pvt Bultemeier was assigned to Company D, 2nd
Battalion, 508th PIR.
T/5 Bultemeier made the jump during the Normandy
invasion and was wounded in action on 13 June 1944 but was able to
rejoin the unit on 27 August 1944.
He was held in reserve during the next two months
thereby missing the Holland Campaign but went back into combat for the
Battle of The Bulge. He was injured in action on 29 December 1944
and evacuated to a field hospital. On 12 April he was transferred to
still another hospital and ultimately discharged on 8 April 1945. |
