Grave marker for Kelly Byers in  Iredell Memorial Gardens, Statesville (Iredell county), North Carolina.

Kelly registered for the draft in Statesville, NC on 16 February 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Fort Bragg, NC on 24 July 1942.

The date of his arrival in the 508th is not known but on 8 May 1944 Pvt Byers was shown being admitted to the 30th General Hospital, Mansfield, England.  He was returned to duty 2 days later.
