Grave marker for A. B. Cannon in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw (Chesterfield county), South Carolina.

A. B. registered for the draft at Cisco, TX on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army in Dallas, TX in October 1942.

On 23 October 1942, Pvt Cannon was transferred from Fort Sam Houston, TX to Company A, 508th PIR.  He was promoted to Pfc on 21 July 1943.

Pfc Cannon was injured in action in Holland on 17 September 1944 which occurred during an action that resulted in his being awarded the Silver Star.  He  was moved to an aid station and rejoined the company on 3 October.  He was also awarded the Purple Heart.

A. B. remained in the Army and retired as a Command Sergeant Major on 31 January 1969 after more than 26 years of service.
