John Carlton, M.D., 83, of Richmond and Mechanicsville,
died May 29, 2005. The son of Thomas B. and Drusilla Scales Carlton, Dr.
Carlton was raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
He was a veteran of the European Theater of Operations
in World War II.
A 1951 graduate of the Medical College of the
University of Tennessee, Dr. Carlton practiced medicine for fifty years
in Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky and New
York.
He continued his enthusiasm for flying and running
well into his later years, completing several Richmond marathons.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister,
Caroline Beatty of Tacoma, Washington; and brother, Thomas Carlton of
Murfreesboro. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Corinne Helmick
Carlton; five children, Corinne Overkleeft, John E. Carlton Jr., William
David Carlton, Paul H. Carlton, and Drucilla C. Andrews; 12
grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Gayton Road
Christian Church, officiated by Rev. Lee Parker, Regional Minister,
Christian Church in Virginia, Thursday, June 2, at 11 a.m., 12050
Ridgefield Parkway, Richmond, Virginia 23233.
