Evan E. Confrey, Ph.D, 91, of Suffield and New Haven, beloved husband
of Charlene (Caisse) Confrey passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at
St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.
Born September 26, 1923 in New Haven,
son of the late Thomas and Clara (Williams) Confrey, he grew up in New
Haven graduating from Sacred Heart School and Hill House High.
Evan
proudly served with the U.S. Army during WWII with the 82nd Airborne
with the 508 G Company, he was a Demolition Specialist and he made 26
parachute jumps while serving in the European Theater.
After serving
his country he attended the University of Bridgeport where he received
his Bachelors Degree, he went on to Southern Connecticut State University
where he received his Master Degree and then received his Ph.D at the
University of Connecticut and was the recipient of seven National Science
grants and awards.
After his schooling he taught at a number of schools
for 34 years which include Southern Connecticut State University, Central
Connecticut State University, Hartford State Technical College and Tunxis
Community College. He taught courses in Management Information Systems,
Data Base Organization and Design and System Analysis.
Evan worked for
the Connecticut Department of Transportation as a Junior Engineer Aide
to Highway Senior Engineering during this time he was also a Land Surveyor.
He was a Computer Programmer and System Analyst of Engineering and Scientific
data. During his time at Hartford State Technical College he served
as Chairman of Civil Engineering Department and Chairman of Computer
Technology Department; he planned, developed and implemented both new
curriculums. He was the Connecticut State Department of Education Consultant
for Computer Science and liaison with other State agencies and department
representative for all computer related activates for 25 years before
retiring. He worked with the United States Census Bureau as a crew chief
for enumerators and had management and statistical responsibilities.
He was also employed by the Connecticut Department of Health Services
and was responsible for long range computer information planning. Evan
served as a member of the Regional Advisory Committee at Gateway Community
College since 1995. In addition to his love of the computer world he
enjoyed running and solving the New York Times and Hartford Courant
crossword puzzles.
Besides his wife Charlene he is survived by four
sons, Thomas Confrey and his wife Susan Sullivan of Glastonbury, G.
Peter Confrey of Tuscon, AZ, Michael Confrey and his wife Beth of Tuscon,
AZ, Barney Confrey and his wife Mary Ann of Tuscon, AZ; eight grandchildren,
Brian, Christopher, Hayley, Jarrett, Devon, Jordan, Rachel and Noah.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion (Visel) Confrey and a daughter,
Carolyn Mary Confrey.
His family will receive friends Wednesday, October
29, 2014 from 3-7 PM PM at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield
Ave., Windsor. Family and friends may gather Thursday, October 30, 2014
at 11 AM at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial, 12:30 PM at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Rd, Suffield.
Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windsor.
