CURTIS C. CROCKETT

Grave marker for Curtis C. Crockett in Smith Cemetery, Belle Rive (Jefferson county), Illinois.

Curtis enlisted in the US Navy on 16 April 1942 and served as a gunner's mate aboard the SS Esso Baltimore as shown on this crew list for a voyage from Cardiff, Wales to New York City.  Two other manifests were located, all with the same entry of Gunners Mate 3rd Class and all aboard this same ship..

He was discharged  from the Navy on 13 October 1945.

 

The Selective Service updated his draft record to reflect his discharge from the Navy.

Curtis  enlisted in the Army on 1 September 1948. 

On 27 August 1953, SFC Crockett was a member of Tank Company, 76th Airborne Division.

He was subsequently assigned to the 508th ARCT and went through a series of enlistments, including one to qualify for Operation Gyroscope in January 1955.  His final discharge my have been on 13 December 1957.
