John enlisted in the Army at Erie, PA on 17 November
1942.
On 29 October 1943, T5 Dibbley was transferred from
the Parachute School, Fort Benning, GA to Company D, 508th PIR
Pvt Dibbley was seriously injured in action on 3 July
1944.and evacuated.
On 6 September 1944, Pvt Dibbley was
listed aboard the SS Queen Mary,being transferred from the Detachment of
Patients, Plant 4188 [at Whittington, Staffordshire, United Kingdom] to
the Parachute Regiment, FT Benning. He would be given orders that
transferred to a US Medical Installation upon debarkation. That
hospital location is not known. |
On 25 January 1960, John completed
this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.
He
was credited with 22 months of domestic service and 9 months of foreign
duty and was awarded a bonus of $355. Now married, he, his wife
Doris, and two young children were then living in Rouseville (Venango
County,), PA.
