JAMES D. DIETRICH

Grave marker for James D. Dietrich in the Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News (Newport News City), Virginia.

James first enlisted in the National Guard on 3 February 1941 at Camp Patrick Henry, Newport News, VA.  He was commissioned on 19 August 1942.

2nd Lt Dietrich joined with the 508th in early 1943 and was assigned to Hq Company, 1st Battalion.

He was appointed to the grade of Captain on 12 September 1944 and was listed as slight injured in action on 25 September 1944 but returned to duty in mid-October

Capt Dietrich was discharged on 30 November 1945 but was recalled on 9 October 1950 due to the Korean Conflict.  He was discharged again on 8 March 1942.

His military awards include the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during the Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944.
