--- Hollis R. Gitchell, 51, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of Johnson City, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after a short Illness. Ha Is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marjorie (Larish) Gitchell, Rochester, Minn.; one daughter. Miss Denise Gitchell, Rochester, Minn.; one son, Scott Gitchell, Rochester, Minn.; his mother and step-father, Mr. and
Mrs., Charles Beauchamp, Sidney, N.Y.; two aunts, Mrs. Mildred Judd and
Mrs., Gladys Gitchell, both of Binghamton one uncle, Lawrence Smith, Johnson City. He was a veteran of World War II and was employed In the purchasing department of IBM Corporation for 26 years. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the J. F. Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main St., Johnson City. The Rev. Robert E. Grover, pas tor of the Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Johnson City, will officiate. Burial will be In Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9.

A variety shower was given in honor of Miss Marjorie Larish, prospective bride, by Mrs. Edward Gibson in her home, 90 Allen Street, Johnson City. Miss Larish is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Larish, 306 Floral Avenue, Johnson City, formerly of Binghamton. She will become the bride of Hollis Gitchell, son of Mi and Mrs. Leonard Beauchamp of Sidney, Aug. 31/
A blue and white color scheme was carried out in the decorations.

Grave marker for Hollis R. Gitchell in Vestal
Hills Memorial Park, Vestal (Broome county), New York.
On16 October 1939, Hollis enlisted in the
New York National
Guard, Company G, 10th Infantry with a 3 year commitment and on 22 July 1943, he was
discharged to accept a commission the following day. Her was later
activated to the Army Reserve..
On 9 August 1944, 2nd Lt. Gitchell was transferred
from the 11th Replacement Depot to Company C, 508th PIR with the
principle duty of assistant platoon leader.
2nd Lt Gitchell was evacuated as a non-battle casualty
to a field hospital on 27 December 1945.
Still not returned to duty, he
was transferred to the
hospital's detachment of patients on 25 April 1945.
On
11 June 1945, 1st Lt Gitchell was among the patients returning to New
York, NY aboard the USAT Washington which departed Southampton, England
3 June 1945.
He was diagnosed with a hernia of the right abdominal
wall and after extensive treatment in a state-side hospital, he was discharged on 5 April; 1946.
