Grave marker for Antonio J. and Shirley (nee Bixby) Glokner
in Section EE4, Plot 36. Willamette National Cemetery, Portland
(Multnomah county), Oregon.
Antonio registered for the draft in Somerville, NJ on 30
June 1942 and according to a news report in The Courier-News,
Bridgewater, NJ, 03 July 1943, Antonio "received orders to report July
10 at 10:30 in the Armory, Grove St, for forwarding to the reception
center at Fort Dix." [Jumpmaster Note: That
Armory was presumably the New Jersey National Guard Armory Park Blvd &
Grove St Cherry Hill NJ ]
On 15 January 1944, The Courier-News also reported that
Antonio, "... has qualified as a paratrooper at Fort Benning, Ga. and is
assigned to Fort Mackall, N. C, for advanced training".
Pvt Glokner was assigned to the 508th in late 1945 or early
1946.
On 19 April 1946, Pfc Glokner arrived in New
York from Le Havre France aboard the Texarkana Victory.

12 October 1957, Antonio, now a salesman, married Shirley Jean Bixby in
Portland, OR. |
