LAWRENCE L. GRIESHAMMER aged 93, of Euclid Ohio. Beloved husband of the late Mary (Meador) and dear father of seven, grandfather of 17 and great-grandfather of 12.
He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne infantry during World War II.

Lawrence enlisted in the Army at Los Angeles, CA on 23
October 1942 and was assigned to Hq Hq, 508th PIR.
On Mar 24, 1943 Pvt Grieshammer was transferred to
Training Unit 3301 VPI (Virginia Polytechnic Institute) Blacksburg, VA.
Pfc Grieshammer was transferred back to Hq Hq,
508th from the 501st PIR on 10 September 1943.
On 4 July 1944 Pfc Grieshammer was seriously wounded
in action and evacuated to a field hospital but was able to return to
duty on July 31wst.
Then on 4 August he was sent on Special Duty with the
American Red Cross Wollaton Park, England.
On 25 August 1944 he was sent to the 184th General
Hospital in Mansfield, England. Four days later he was transferred
to the Parachute Replacement Regiment, Parachute School, Fort
Benning, GA.
On
9 September 1944 Pfc Grieshammer was listed as a patient on HQ, 184th
General Hospital Evacuation Order No 9, aboard the RMS Aquitania, a
Cunard Line ocean liner then serving as a troop transport. Its
destination was New York, NY. All listed patients were to be
transferred to a medical facility to be named at the time of
debarkation. It is not known where Grieshammer may have been sent. |
