PHILIP GROSS

 

Philip Gross enlisted in the Army on 27 August 1940 in Philadelphia, PA before the draft law was enacted.  The record above was completed on 18 June 1945  following his discharge

Pvt Gross was wounded in action on 6 June 1944 and evacuated to the 93rd General Hospital in Blackmore Park, Worcestershire, England.

He returned for duty on 27 June 1944 and was transferred to Service Company for light duty.

Pvt Gross was discharged on 13 June 1945.and married Virginia L. Simpson in Madison, VA on 31 December 1945.

Blackmore Park was home to two US Army hospital ... the 93rd and the 114th.  Which of the two is in this photo is not known but notice the three Quonset huts at center and left in he photo.

Those Quonset huts served as wards housing 12 or more men recovering from wounds.  The Quonset interior is stark but served their intended purpose and undoubtedly many men passed through these wards.
