Bonus application for George P. Hawkins.
George enlisted in the
Army at Philadelphia, PA on 6 June 1942 and was assigned to Company C,
508th PIR.
Pvt Hawkins was listed as
wounded in action on 3 July 1944. He returned to duty six days
later.
Company Order No. 8 dated
20 July 1944 listed Hawkins as appointed to the rank of Pfc.
On 24 December 1944 Pfc
Hawkins was hospitalized as a "non battle casualty" and on 18 January he
was relieved of assignment to the 508th and placed in an attached,
unassigned status.
Then on 30 January 1945 he
returned to the company after being transferred from the 3rd Replacement
Depot.
Pfc Hawkins was again
hospitalized as a "non battle casualty" on 6 February 1945 and returned
to duty on 11 February. The following day Hawkins was "slightly
injured in action" and specifically listed as "Battle Casualty-Germany."
On 20 April 1945 his
status was changed from attached, unassigned, and absent in hospital to
transferred to hospital's Detachment of Patients. This time he did
not return to the regiment.
Pfc Hawkins' military
decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze service Arrowhead
device awarded for participation in Normandy assault. |
