JOHN A. JOHNSTON

Grave marker for John A. Johnston in Merchants Hope Memorial Park, Prince George (Prince George county), Virginia.  His wife Veronica rests beside him.

John enlisted at Hopewell, VA; on 3 February 1941 prior to the enactment of the draft law and therefore registered for the draft post-war in Hopewell, Hopewell, VA on 23 October 1945.kist nine days after his discharge.

Pfc Johnston was transferred from  Hq Field Force Replacement Depot #3 to Company A, 508th PIR on 31 March 1944.

He was seriously wounded in action as of 13 June 1944 and evacuated to a field hospital.

On 27 September 1944, still not recovered, he was transferred to the hospital's detachment of patients.

He was discharged on 14 October 1945.

Wasting no time, he married Veronica Beata Dauenhauer in Washington, District of Columbia on 10 November 1945. Perhaps he met her while hospitalized at Bethesda, MD or other hospitals treating wounded men..

John succumbed to Bronchogenic Carcinoma (lung cancer) with metastasis on 3 July 1987.

Veronica survived him by five years and now rests beside him.
