COL. PETER EDWARD KELLEY

   Col. Peter Edward Kelley, United States Army Retired, 67, died September 5, in Punta Gorda, FL. He was a resident of 1223 Santana Ct. Punta Gorda Isles. He was born in Cleveland, OH and came to Punta Gorda in 1973 from Fort Bragg, NC. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Punta Gorda; a member of the Isles Yacht Club and the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association. Survivors are his wife, Coletta C. Kelley of P.G.I; one brother, Edward J. Kelley of Cleveland, OH; one sister Irene A. Doyle also of Cleveland, OH. Mass of the Resurrection will be Wednesday, 10:00, from Sacred Heart Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Schuitz-McKee Funeral Home, Punta Gorda.

Grave marker for Peter E Kelley in Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda (Charlotte county), Florida.

Peter enlisted in the Army in Cleveland, OH on 25 September 1941.

He was discharged to accept a commission on 27 July 1943 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. the following day.

1st Lt Kelley was transferred from 82nd Airborne Division Hq to Service Co, 508th PIR on 3 August 1944.  He was  awarded a Bronze Star Medal for heroics in Holland and an Oak Leaf Cluster for similar service in Belgium. He was also wounded in action in Belgium on 2 January 1945.

On 18 August 1945, he was transferred to the 101st Airborne Division.
