EDWARD KENNEY
Retired Army Capt. Edward J. Kenney, 74, died Friday, May 2, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.
Mr.. Kenney was born in Freeport, N.Y., and came to Brevard County in 1994 from Orlando.
He was a 22-year veteran of World War II and the Korean War. For his service, Mr. Kenney was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead; Purple Heart; Presidential Unit Citation; Combat Infantry Badge; Belgian
Fourragére; World War II Victory Medal; Expert Combat Infantryman's Medal; and Master Parachutist Badge. He was wounded in action in Belgium.
Mr.. Kenney was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palm Bay, the Purple Heart Association, The Retired Officers Association, the Officers Club in Newport, R.I., and the Massachusetts Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Kenney of Palm Bay; daughters, Pamela Looke of Maine, Jayne Huston of Orlando, Deanna Costa of Massachusetts and Laurel Kenney of Palm Bay;

Edward
enlisted in the NT National Guard, probably at Camp Upton, Long
Island, on 18 May 1938 and was assigned to Co K, 14th Infantry
Division.
In 1940, he was transferred to Company A, 102nd Infantry which was . Inducted into active Federal service at New Haven on 24 February 1941 and moved to Camp Blanding, Florida, where it arrived 15 March 1941.
Edward enlisted in the regular army on 13 January
1941 and on 16 October 1942, Pvt Kenney was transferred from the
507th PIR as a cadre team member to the 5087th PIR as it was being
activated at Camp Blanding, FL.
By November 1943 he had been promoted to Master
Sergeant.and on 31 August 1944 he was commissioned as a Warrant
Officer with a principal duty as communication officer. He was
then transferred from Hq Hq to Hq 3rd as the battalion
Communications officer.
On 19 November 1944, he replaced his warrant officer
insignia with that of a second lieutenant. In 1945 he
continued to hold that rank and principle duty while the regiment
was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.

Mrs.. Kenney is the former Miss Marie Corson, daughter of Mrs.
Marie Corson, of Belfast, Me. Her marriage to Lieutenant
Kenney, U. S. Army, of Colonial avenue, Freeport [NY] took place in
the chapel at Mitchel Field. The bridegroom is stationed at Fort
Bragg, N.C. with the 82nd airborne division, 504th parachute
infantry, and the couple reside at Fayetteville, N.C.
Unfortunately the marriage ended in divorce in 1957
and on 7 December of that year Edward married Barbara J Arnold
[1932-2007] in Maine where he was an instructor at University of
Maine Orono, ROTC, Bangor (Penobscot county), ME.
Captain Kenney was discharged on 31 July 1961. |
