LAWRENCE LAMBERT

(courtesy of Dee Dubya)

Grave marker for Lawrence Lambert in Section B, site 2090-B of the Alexandria National Cemetery, Pineville (Rapides Parish), Louisiana.

Lawrence had enlisted with the stated choice of Air Corps but ended up in the Airborne instead.  He served as 1st Sergeant in Hq 1st before being transferred to the 541st Parachute Infantry, Ft Benning, GA on 15 August 1943.

He transitioned to the Air Force after it was created in September 1943.  Whether his commission as a warrant officer was attained in the Army or Air Force it unknown. He apparently swerved in Korea and the award of a DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) as shown on his headstone may imply that he had become rated as a helicopter pilot.
