SAMUEL P. LANCASTER

[courtesy of 'LKAT', used with permission]

Grave marker for Samuel P. Lancaster in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio (Bexar county), Texas.

Samuel enlisted in the Army at Oklahoma City, OK on 19 November 1942 and was assigned to Company I, 508th PIR.

On 3 August 1943, Pvt Lancaster was transferred to the ASTP* unit, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, PA.  He did not return to the regiment and the remainder of his service career is unknown.

[*Jumpmaster Note: the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) was instituted to meet wartime demands both for junior officers and soldiers with technical skills and candidates were assigned to various land grant colleges to complete a highly condensed four-year curriculum.  But in February 1944 over one-third of the men in the ASTP were recalled to active duty to help the army meet increasing personnel demands.]
