ROBERT C. LENELL. Sr.
Robert C. Lenell, WWII Army Veteran, served as a paratrooper in three [sic] campaigns with the 508 Parachute Infantry, beloved husband of Virginia, nee Penar; loving father of Robert Jr. (Linda), Wayne (Lynn), Brian (Jo Lynne) and the late Wesley Lenell; dearest grandfather of 16; great-grandfather of four; fond brother of the late Raymond (late Eunice) and Richard Lenell. Funeral Monday 9:15 a.m. from Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien, to St. Scholastica Church. Mass 10 a.m. Interment private. Visitation Sunday 2 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the American Lung Association would be appreciated. 630-852-3595 .

Grave marker for Robert C. Lenell, Sr. in Section G3 Site 91 of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood (Will county), Illinois.

Pfc Lenell, a member of Company D, was appointed to the grade of Sergeant on 1 August 1944. 

On 27 October 1944 he was seriously wounded in action and evacuated to a field hospital. 

On 1 December 1944 he was transferred to the Parachute Replacement Regiment at the Parachute  School, Ft Benning, GA where he could receive additional treatment.
