An attractive St. Patrick's Day motif was carried out at the bridal shower given by Mrs. Betty Subka and -Mrs. Bessie Mickel to honor a bride-to-be, Miss Barbara Tibbs of St. Joseph. She is to be married March 27 to a Benton Harbor man, Seaman Edgar Lockman of Great Lakes, IL.
The shower was given in the Subka home at 538 Winchester avenue, and after refreshments, the guests played double fifty, Prizes, presented to the bride-elect by the winners, went to Mrs. Clara Radde, Mrs. Martha Mackus and Miss Esther Kelm.

[The News-Palladium, Benton Harbor, MI, 18 Mar 1943, Thu, Page 3]

Edgar initially enlisted in the U.S.  Navy and served as a gunner.

In June 1943, he was in a 28-man gunner team aboard the SS Joseph Warren arriving in New York, NY. Troop ships had guns mounted on the deck to stave off submarine attacks...

In 1944 he was listed in a 25-man gun crew aboard, again on  the SS Joseph Warren . as it departed New York for an unstated destination.  The omission was probably due to the need to avoid disclosure  of troop movements.

On 25 May 1956, MSgt Lockman, his wife and 2 children (line 4-7) were aboard MATS Flight 8423, which had originated in Japan, were on the final leg between Hickham, AFB Hawaii bund for Travis AFB, CA.

Note that other 508ers, such as the Blum family, were also passengers
