PERSONAL ODYSSEY OF JOHN R. MONTAGUE

Pfc. Montague Is Missing in Action
   Pfc. John R. Montague, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Montague, 1514 Jefferson st., has been missing in action in France since D-day, his parents were notified by the war department last week.
   A paratrooper, he had been overseas since last December, lie is a graduate of Onarga Military school, in Illinois.

Pfc. Montague Taken Prisoner
   Pfc. John R. Montague, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Montague, 1514 Jefferson st., was taken prisoner during the invasion of France, his parents have been advised. He was reported missing July 27.
   Pfc. Montague, a paratrooper, is a graduate of Ft. A t k i n son high MONTAGUE school and the Onarga, IL., Military Academy. He entered the service in Oct., 1942, and took his paratroop training at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Families Get Cheering News from Germany
  
Four more Madison families were cheered today with news of soldiers liberated from prisoner of war camps in Germany.
 Those listed as liberated today follow:
   Pfc. John R. Montague, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Montague, 1514 Jefferson st.
   Sgt. Maurice Sauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Sauer, 209 Owen dr.
   Lieut. L. G. Bredeson, husband of Mrs. Patricia Bredeson, who is now residing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert Giese, 1212 Rutledge st.
   Pfc. Robert O. Link, son of Mrs. Bertha Link, 21 N. Spooner st.

Montague Freed From Nazi Prison
   Pfc. John R. Montague, paratrooper captured by the Germans on D-day in Normandy, was released from Stalag 4A, south of Dresden, on May 8, he has written his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Montague, 1514 Jefferson st.
   Pfc. Montague, who was a prisoner of war 11 months, wrote that he hopes to be home soon and that American food and cigarettes taste grand.
   He is a graduate of the military academy at Onega, IL., and he entered service in 1942

Corp. Montague, Ex-POW, Is Home
   Corp. John R. Montague, who was a German prisoner of war for 11 months at Stalag 4B, south of Dresden, Germany, has returned to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Montague, 1514 Jefferson st., following his discharge from the army Nov. 9 at Ft. Benning. Ga.
   A graduate of the military academy at Onaigo, IL.. Corp. Montague entered service in 1942. He was a member of the 508th paratroop regiment and was taken prisoner in Normandy on D-Day, being released May 8, 1945. Only 918 men out of the 2,056 who jumped over Normandy were returned to their base in England.
   Since returning to the United States from Germany, he was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston. Tex, and then at Ft. Benning, Ga., where he was a clerk-typist in the payroll department. Corp. Montague's decorations include the combat infantryman badge, parachutists badge, rifle and carbine marksmanship medals, light machine gun experts medal. World War II victory medal, American theater ribbon, European-African-Middle East ribbon with one star, good Conduct medal, distinguished unit badge with one cluster and the purple heart.

Engaged
   Mr. and Mrs. Lewis P. Poster, 1235 Franklin st., announce the engagement of their daughter, Lois Louise, to John R. Montague, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Montague, 1514 Jefferson st.
   No date has been set for the wedding.

THE fireplace of St., Raphaels parish was adorned with white pompons, pink carnations, ferns and candles for the nuptial service Jan. 4 at 11 a. m. which united Miss Lois Louise Poster, daughter of the Lewis P. Posters, 215 S. Bassett st., and John R. Montague, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Montague, 1514 Jefferson st.
   As she was escorted before the Rev. Howard Finnegan by her father, the bride was clad in a white wool dress with a corsage of gardenias and orchids. Her only jewelry was a gold cross, a gift from the groom.
   Miss Lucille Poster, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor wearing a pale green dress with gardenia corsage. Herman C. Bollig was best man.
   A black dress trimmed in fuchsia was worn by the bride's mother, while Mrs. Montague was attired in a navy blue dress. Their corsages were of roses and pompons.
   A 1 p. m. dinner was served at the Ace of Clubs for 21 guests, and a reception for 75 friends was held at the Poster home. Assistants at the reception were Mrs. Anna Moeykins and Miss Bertha Schuerman.
   The bride was attired in a gray suit with black accessories as she and her husband departed by plane for their Minneapolis honeymoon. The newlyweds are now making their home at 1514 Jefferson st.
   Mrs. Montague is employed at United States Armed Forces institute. Mr. Montague, a graduate of the military academy at Onega, IL., served as a member of the 508th paratroop regiment during the war and spent 11 months in a German prison camp. He is now employed as a power engineer at Madison General hospital.
