Grave marker for Samuel Montanaro in Saints Peter and
Paul Cemetery, Springfield )Delaware county), Pennsylvania.
Samuel registered for the draft in
Chester, PA on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Philadelphia, PA;
on 16 April 1943.
On 3 October 1944, Cpl Montanaro was
transferred from 82nd Airborne Division Hq to Service Company, 508th
PIR.
He was subsequently transferred to
Company F on 22 November 1944.
Cpl Montanaro was wounded in action in
Belgium on 27 January 1945 and evacuated. He returned to duty on 19
April 1945.
Sgt Montanaro was transferred to the
504th PIR on 20 October 1945.
He was discharged on 4 January 1946.

The marriage of Miss Mary Nora Bresson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Natalie Bresson, 917 West Fifth St Chester, formerly of Avoca, and Samuel Montanaro, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donato Montanaro, 214 Parker St., Chester, was solemnized recently in St. Anthony s Church, Chester. The Rev. Dennis McGrannary officiated.

On 18 January 1950, Samuel submitted
this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus. He was
credited with 13 months of domestic duty and 20 months of foreign
service resulting in a $430 bonus award.
