PITTENGER Vivian "Pete” Eugene
Pete a 60 year resident
of Spokane entered into rest on January 25 2008. He was born one of ten children on June 12 1919 in Griggs County ND to parents Eugene and Irene Pittenger.
In 1941 Pete enlisted in the Army. He was a proud member of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry and the 82nd Airborne serving in the (AA) Aleutian Islands, Attu, Adak and Kiska.
Pete participated in several battles and received numerous medals including the Bronze Battle Star, American Defense Service Ribbon, Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, an Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, and received five Overseas Bars. He served during Operation Neptune, the airborne assault on Normandy France, “Belgian
Fourragére” and the Occupation of Berlin Germany after the war.
Pete was Honorably Discharged in December of 1945. He married his
loving wife of 46 years Mary Elizabeth Jamison in 1949.
After working for Barton Oldsmobile for over 25 years Pete retired
in 1986.
He enjoyed boating, bird hunting and playing checkers with his grandchildren.
Pete is survived by his three children Tanya (Mike) Bos, Terry Moore and Gene (Paula) Pittenger, grandchildren Darrick, Tamsha, Shalena, Courtney, Kellsie, Shelby and Libby, great-grandchildren Sierra, Breven, Skout and Izzie and sisters Marvel and Sally.
He was preceded in death in 1994 by his loving wife Mary and seven siblings.
Grandpa Pete is in God’s hands and will be greatly missed!
Funeral service will be at 11 AM Saturday February 2 2008 at Riplinoer Funeral Home, 4305 N Division, Spokane, WA with interment with Military Honors following the service at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Vivian registered for the
draft in Olivia, Minnesota on 16 October 1940. He was inducted
into the Army on 7 October 1941.
Pfc Pittenger was
transferred from the 6900th Reinforcement Depot to Hq 2nd, 508th PIR on
3 June 1945.
On 24 October 1945, he was
transferred to the 504th PIR. |
