ERNEST T. ROBERTS
Worker Stricken On Job

A Greenwood man collapsed and died Tuesday while working on the new wing under construction at the Bartholomew county hospital, 2400 Seventeenth street.
  . Ernest T. Roberts, Jr., 44, died of an apparent heart attack about 2:45 p.m.
  He was employed as a ceramic tile setter for the Blakley Granite, Marble and Tile company.
   Several workmen in the new wing went to Mr. Robert's aid.
   Owen N. Beckwlth, 1504 Pearl street, attempted to revive the Greenwood man with chest massage and artificial respiration.
   Mr. Roberts was carried to the emergency room of the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
   He is survived by his wife. three children and parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday from the J.C.. Wilson Greenwood Chapel.

Ernest T. Roberts, Jr. heart victim Tuesday

   GREENWOOD Ernest T Roberts, Jr. 44, 123 Rose Lane, Greenwood, a ceramic tile setter for the Blakely Granite, Marble and Tile Company died of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon while working on the new wing of the Bartholomew county hospital. Mr. Roberts was taken to the hospital emergency room but was dead on arrival.
   Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the J.C. Wilson Greenwood Chapel with the Rev. Charles Myers officiating.  Friends may call after 12 noon Thursday and burial will be In Greenwood cemetery.
   Mr. Roberts was a veteran of World War II.  He was born Feb. 6, 1924 in Indianapolis the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest T. Roberts, Sr. He has lived in the Greenwood area for nine years.
   Survivors Include the wife, the former Louise Henderson; both parents; children, Judith Stearns, Indianapolis, Ernest T. Roberts, III, Ball state university, and John Roberts, at home.
   Other survivors include Donna Richardson, Ilene Roberts, Virginia Lawler and Jackllne Boone, all sisters from Texas.

Ernest registered for the draft in Corpus Christi, TX on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the army on 26 October 1942 and was assigned to Company D, 508th PIR.

He was promoted to Cpl on 4 May 1944.

Cpl Roberts was  taken prisoner in Normandy on 6 June 1944 but mot until he, John Lockwood and Otto Zwingman conducted themselves heroically.  He and Zwingman were captured but Lockwood was killed.

After his liberation following the end of hostilities, Cpl Roberts was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroic action on D-Day
