Cecil registered for the draft in Spartanburg, South Carolina on 16 February 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Pittsburgh, PA on 28 April 1942.

His date of arrival in the 508th is not known but Sgt Robertson was listed in 3rd Anniversary book photo of men recently arrived in Co I.

He was discharged on 7 November 1945.

On 6 May 1946 he married Naomi Buchanan in Belmont, OH.

Cecil succumbed at the age of 47 to a lymphomic cancer in the Presbyterian-University Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA on 28 November 1967.
