Walter O. Roy
Walter Oscar Roy, 84, formerly of Grantville, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, in
Lebanon's Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of the late Geraldine M. Carl Roy, who died July 30, 2003,
Born Sept. 15, 1920, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Oscar and Rose Wieland Roy. He retired from Hershey Food Corp. and was the former proprietor of Mountain View Court Motel. He was a member of Shells Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shellsville, and the Shellsville VFW. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, and he fought in several major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He volunteered for the Museum of Pennsylvania, the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council, Arts of the State, various Farm Show events and the YMCA Harrisburg Mile.
Surviving are sons Walter G. Roy of Upper Darby and Curtis H. Roy of Grantville;' daughter Geri A. Stahr of Grantville; sister Rita Warner of Harrisburg; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by sister Rose Roy. His funeral will be at 11, a.m, Monday in Shells Evangelical Lutheran Church, 287 Shells Church Road, Shellsville, with a viewing at 10. Interment with military honors will be in Shells Cemetery. Buse Funeral Home, Shellsville, is handling arrangements.

Walter enlisted in the Army on 18 May 1939.
On 4 August 1944, Pfc Roy was transferred from Hq 82nd
Airborne Division to Company C, 508th PIR.
Walter was wounded in action on 14 February 1945 and
evacuated but was able to rejoin the company 5 days later.
His military decorations include the Bronze Service
Arrowhead device awarded for the Holland campaign and Airborne
operations.
MISS GERALDINE CARL
Mr. and Mrs.: George M. Carl, Harrisburg, R. D. 3, have announced, the engagement of their daughter, Miss Geraldine Mae Carl, to Walter O. Roy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. Roy, 505 Parkway road.
Miss Carl was graduated from Hershey High School and is employed as a stenographer at the Market Street Trust Company.
Mr. Roy graduated from William Penn High School and attended the Harrisburg Academy, He was a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division serving in Europe, and since his discharge has been employed by the Bell Telephone Company.
