Grave marker for Francis M. Schauer in the Catholic Garden, Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus (Muscogee county), Georgia.

Francis entered the Army on 21 July 1940.  On 16 October 1942, 1st Lt. Schauer was transferred to Hq 2nd, 508th PIR as part of the cadre team transferred from the 507th PIR.

The lieutenant does not appear in any other available 508th records but National Archive files indicate that he was discharged on 20 December 1944. This would imply that he had transferred to another unit, had been wounded and transported back to the U.S.
