SIVETZ
On Tuesday, Feb 15, 1983, John of 2138 Arabella St, Mt Oliver,
beloved husband of Barbara Thomas Sivetz, dear father of Thomas Sivetz,
Carrie Ann Sivetz, and Jeffrey Wagner, brother of Margaret B. Sivetz and
Nicholas Sivetz, also survived by five grandchildren. Interment
was private. A memorial Service will be held Sun., Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. in
Knoxville Christian Church (contributions may be made to the church, if
so desired.) Arrangements by Elmer l, Herman Funeral Chapel of
Hazelwood.

John registered for the Draft on 22 June 1941 in
Pittsburgh, PA.
He volunteered for parachutist duty and was assigned
to Hq Hq, 508h PIR.
Following the Normandy Campaign, he was promoted to
the grade of T/5 on 1 September 1944.
While came through that campaign unscathed, he was
wounded in action in Holland on 17 September 1944. He was
evacuated but returned to the regiment on 21 October 1944 and was
transferred to Service Company for further recuperation. He was
returned to Hq Hq on 9 December 1944.
On 19 January 1945, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
SSgt Sivetz was transferred to the 9th Reinforcement
Depot on 12 March 1945 for return to the U.S. and was discharged in 18
January 1945.
John submitted an application for the PA
WWII Veterans Bonus on 17 January 1950. He was credited with 43 months
of active duty and 6 months of foreign service earning him the full $500
bonus.
On 5 November 1950 he was recalled to
duty due to the Korean Conflict and at some point thereafter was
commissioned as a 2nd Lt.
Before he left, he married Barbara Thomas Wagner in
Allegheny county, PA on 22 December 1950.
He was discharged again on 4 April 1952. |
